A motor vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission shall be equipped with a gear shift indicator in proper operating condition. Certification of a commercial vehicle shall not be refused because of a minor misalignment of a gear shift indicator, that is, a misalignment of not more than one-half the distance between shift positions; however, the motorist shall be advised to have the defect corrected.
