Section Pari 808.04 - Official Schooling Races
(a) An official schooling race shall consist of:
(1) At least 6 greyhounds; or
(2) At least 3 greyhounds if 6 greyhounds are not available for schooling at the time that the official schooling race begins.
(b) Official schooling races shall be at a distance of:
(1) Not less than 5/16 mile if the purse-race course will be 5/16 mile or longer; and
(2) Not less than 3/16 mile if the purse-race course will be 3/16 mile.
(c) Official schooling races shall:
(1) Be started using a starting box; and
(2) Use the services of a timer and a photo finish operator.
(d) Greyhounds required to run official schooling races shall run them:
(1) In the presence of the board;
(2) At their racing weight;
(3) Started from the starting box wearing blankets and racing muzzles; and
(4) Sufficiently often to establish that they have none of the following characteristics making them unfit to race:
a. Checking;
b. Biting;
c. Trailing the pack;
d. Varying speeds while running;
e. Interference with other greyhounds;
f. Inattention to running; and
g. Continuation of a sickness or injury previously found by the commission veterinarian to make them unfit to race.
