The purpose of the office of the long-term care ombudsman is to protect the civil and human rights of persons residing in long-term care facilities, to investigate complaints, to safeguard residents' health, safety, and welfare, to enhance their quality of life, and to provide an independent voice for residents in the development and implementation of public policy, rules, and laws affecting residents of long-term care facilities.
