Section He-C 6450.23 - Discipline
(a) The experiential/wilderness facility's policies shall prohibit abusive, corporal, humiliating, or frightening punishment.
(b) The following specific punishments shall be prohibited:
(1) Denial of food including snacks;
(2) Denial of sleep, or using rest as a punishment;
(3) Denial of shelter, clothing, or bedding, solely as punishment;
(4) Denial of access to bathrooms;
(5) Denial of mail and visits with their families, solely as punishment;
(6) Restrictions concerning home visits, solely as punishment;
(7) Isolation or sensory deprivation;
(8) Physical exercises when used solely as punishment;
(9) Group punishment for misbehaviors of individuals except when documented as part of the experiential/wilderness facility's treatment plan; and
(10) The use of mechanical restraints.
(c) Discipline shall be directed at helping each child develop his or her own self-control and assume responsibility for his or her own acts.
(d) Corporal punishment shall be prohibited.
(e) Discipline on off-site trips shall be reviewed with the juveniles prior to departure.
(f) Administration of discipline shall be a staff responsibility.
