Section 483.804 - Commercial learner's permit: Eligibility; effect1. A person who is at least 18 years of age and has a valid Nevada driver's license or commercial driver's license may apply to the Department for a commercial learner's permit.2. The holder of a commercial learner's permit must have taken and passed a knowledge test that meets the federal standards contained in 49 C.F.R. Part 383, Subparts F, G and H, for the class of commercial motor vehicle that the holder operates or expects to operate.3. A commercial learner's permit entitles the holder, while having the commercial learner's permit and underlying Nevada driver's license or commercial driver's license in his or her immediate possession, to drive a designated class of commercial vehicle upon the highways.4. A commercial learner's permit allows the holder of the permit to operate a commercial motor vehicle when accompanied by the holder of a valid commercial driver's license who: (a) Is at least 25 years of age;(b) Has been issued a commercial driver's license for the proper class and with the endorsements necessary for the type of vehicle being operated;(c) Has had at least 1 year of licensed commercial driving experience in the class and with the endorsements necessary for the type of vehicle for which the commercial learner's permit was issued; and(d) Must at all times be physically present in the front seat of the vehicle next to the holder of the permit or, in the case of a passenger vehicle, directly behind or in the first row behind the holder of the permit and must have the holder of the permit under observation and direct supervision.5. The issuance of a commercial learner's permit is a precondition to:(a) The initial issuance of a commercial driver's license.(b) The issuance of a commercial driver's license if the commercial driving privileges of the applicant for the commercial driver's license have been invalid for more than 4 years.(c) The upgrade of a commercial driver's license if the upgrade requires a skills test.6. The holder of a commercial learner's permit is not eligible to take a skills test until 14 days after the date of the initial issuance of the commercial learner's permit.7. The holder of a commercial learner's permit upon which is placed a tank vehicle endorsement (N), as that endorsement is described in 49 C.F.R. § 383.93, may operate a tank vehicle only if the vehicle is empty and shall not operate any tank vehicle that previously contained hazardous materials, if the vehicle has not been purged of any residue.Nev.
