Section 444.504 - Disinfectants: Approved chemical feedersThe spa must be equipped with a chlorinator, hypochlorinator or other disinfectant feeder or feeders which meet the following standards:
1. All chemical feeding equipment and process equipment, except for feeding equipment for chlorine gas, must be designated by the NSF International as complying with all applicable requirements of NSF International Standard 50 or, in the absence of applicable requirements, be approved by the health authority.2. Chemical feeding equipment must be capable of supplying at least the equivalent of 3 pounds (1.4 kilograms) of chlorine per 24 hours per 10,000 gallons (37,850 liters) of spa capacity for outdoor spas, and the equivalent of 1 pound (454 grams) of chlorine per 24 hours per 10,000 gallons (37,850 liters) of spa capacity for indoor spas.3. Other disinfectant feeders may be approved if it can be demonstrated to the health authority that the required disinfectant residuals can be maintained. The material used must be subject to a simple testing procedure which will permit a ready means of determining the residual disinfectant in the water at the site of the spa.4. Disinfectant feeders must be installed to ensure that the flow of the chemical disinfectant will stop immediately if there is an interruption in the flow of water to the pool or through the disinfection system.Nev.
