Section 389.562 - Career and technical education in cooperation with private employer: Contents
1. The board of trustees of a school district or the governing body of a charter school may offer a program of study in career and technical education that includes an apprenticeship or paid work experience if the apprenticeship or paid work experience is part of a work-based learning program approved by the State Board pursuant to NRS 389.167, as amended by section 2 of Senate Bill No. 66, chapter 596, Statutes of Nevada 2017, at page 4334, and NAC 389.825.
2. To participate in a program of study in career and technical education that includes an apprenticeship or paid work experience, a pupil must:
(a) Be at least 16 years of age; and
(b) Have successfully completed his or her second year of the program of study in career and technical education.
3. A program of study in career and technical education that includes an apprenticeship or paid work experience must include instruction designed to teach the pupil to:
(a) Apply instruction and practical knowledge gained through the program of career and technical education that aligns to the career pathway in which the pupil is employed.
(b) Demonstrate a knowledge of the standards for technical skills used in the career pathway in which the pupil is employed.
(c) Demonstrate proficiency at skills necessary for success in the workplace.
4. A pupil participating in a program of study in career and technical education that includes an apprenticeship or paid work experience must submit to the teacher of record assigned to the program pursuant to paragraph (i) of subsection 4 of section 4 of this regulation signed documentation of the number of hours worked.
5. The training agreement and training plan established pursuant to NRS 389.167, as amended by section 2 of Senate Bill No. 66, chapter 596, Statutes of Nevada 2017, at page 4334, between a pupil and the business, agency or organization that offers employment and supervision of the pupil must include goals that the pupil must achieve during the employment.
6. A program of study in career and technical education that includes an apprenticeship or paid work experience must allow a pupil to maintain progress toward graduation from high school while participating in the apprenticeship or paid work experience.
