Section 20 CSR 2150-2.230 - Assistant Physician-Continuing EducationPURPOSE: This rule is being amended to reduce the number of continuing education hours required for physician assistants as passed in Senate Bill 718 (2018) passed by the 99th General Assembly.
(1) Each assistant physician shall complete and attest that he or she has completed at least fifty (50) hours of continuing medical education every two (2) years. The reporting period shall end December 31 of the odd numbered year.(2) In order to count toward the required fifty (50) hours, the continuing education shall be accredited by the American Medical Association (AMA) as Category 1; or by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) as Category 1-A or 2-A; or offered by a residency program or hospital-approved by Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) of the American Medical Association or the Program and Trainee Review Council of the American Osteopathic Association.(3) All courses completed may only count toward fulfilling the requirement for one (1) reporting period.(4) Each licensee shall retain records documenting their attendance at and completion of the required continuing medical education for a minimum of three (3) years after the reporting period in which the continuing medical education was completed. The records shall document the-(A) Titles of the courses taken;(E) Category of hours earned; and(F) Number of hours earned.(5) The board may conduct an audit of licensees to verify compliance with the continuing medical education requirement.Adopted by Missouri Register December 1, 2016/Volume 41, Number 23, effective 1/29/2017Amended by Missouri Register July 15, 2019/Volume 44, Number 14, effective 9/3/2019
