Rule 40-2-1.11 - LEROY PERCY WMA REGULATIONS

The Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, hereby declares that part of the property known as "Leroy Percy State Park," located in Washington County, is and shall be, a wildlife management project or refuge to be managed as a Wildlife Management Area, under the authority of Miss. Code Ann. Section 49-5-13.

Whenever the opening date set above falls on a Sunday, the season shall begin on the preceding Saturday.

B. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1. WMA USER PERMIT: All persons using this wildlife management area, except those exempt from purchasing an annual hunting or fishing license, must carry on their person an annual statewide Wildlife Management Area User Permit. This permit is required in addition to completing the daily visitor use permit or using the WMA Check-In App and any required license and may be purchased wherever licenses are sold.
2. CLOSED AREA: Primitive weapon deer hunting is limited to south of Highway 12 and north of Highway 12 east of Black Bayou. Archery hunting allowed in any open hunting zone during deer seasons. No hunting allowed north of Hwy. 12, west of Black Bayou and east of the no hunting boundary signs that are west of the park lodge.
3. BAG LIMITS: Same as statewide bag limits, except the bag limit on antlerless deer is one (1) per day. All harvested deer count towards statewide bag limits, unless otherwise stated.
4. DEER DATA COLLECTION: All deer harvested must be checked at the Leroy Percy State Park lodge and recorded on WMA Daily Use Permit Card or WMA Check-In App by the hunter who harvested them before leaving the WMA.
5. LEGAL BUCKS: Legal bucks are those with an inside spread of at least 12 inches OR one main beam length of at least 15 inches. For hunters 15 years of age or younger any antlered buck is a legal buck.
6. DOG RESTRICTIONS: Deer hunting with dogs is prohibited. Small game hunting with dogs is allowed during any small game season. Hunting, running, or pursuing hogs with the use of dogs is prohibited.
7. LEGAL WEAPONS: Only centerfire rifles, shotguns with slugs, primitive weapons, and centerfire handguns may be used for deer hunting during the Youth Gun deer hunt. Other deer seasons are restricted to archery and primitive weapons. Rifles or handguns may not be used in the small game and archery area west of the park lodge.
8. DOVE: Opening Saturday is reserved for youth hunters and guardians only. Guardians accompanying youth may hunt dove on the youth with guardian hunt. A guardian is defined as a person 21 years of age or older with a valid hunting license. One guardian is allowed per youth. All youth and guardians must hunt together in one of the 25 designated hunting locations. After the youth hunt, during the first season, hunting is allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. Dove season is open with state framework after the first season. Hunting hours are from 2 p.m. until sunset on opening day. Hunting hours are from 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset after opening day.
9. OFF-ROAD MOTORIZED VEHICLES/ATVs: ORVs/ATVs/Electric Bicycles are only allowed for retrieval of harvested deer or hogs. Additionally, electric bicycles may be ridden on marked foot-traffic trails only by users 65 years of age and older. They may not be ridden on any leveed roads or trails.
10. BOATS: No motorized boats allowed in Black Bayou within the WMA boundary.
11. HORSES: No horses allowed.
12. CAMPING: Camping is allowed under State Park regulations.
