Rental rates for MDOT vehicles and equipment are established by the Asset Management Division in close cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Rental rates are approved by the FHWA, and must be in accordance with Federal cost principles and FHWA policy ( 23 CFR 635), as amended. The website for FHWA is http://www.fhwa.dot.gov. Rental rates are a means of distributing costs to projects, maintenance schedules, and work orders.
