A field inspection of Mississippi's intermodal connectors, conducted by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) in 1998 resulted in the determination that intermodal facilities across the state needed improvements. The Mississippi Transportation Commission then made National Highway System Funds available for these improvements.
