Rule 23-209-1.13 - Battery and Battery Charger
A. The Division of Medicaid defines the following:
1. Battery is a device for generating electric current by chemical action.
2. Battery charger is a device that adds electrical energy to a battery.
B. The Division of Medicaid covers a sealed battery and single mode battery charger for all beneficiaries when prior authorized by the Utilization Management and Quality Improvement Organization (UM/QIO), the Division of Medicaid or designated entity, for purchase only, when all of the following criteria is met:
1. Batteries and battery chargers are associated with the purchase of equipment and are included in the maximum reimbursement for that equipment except for power wheelchair batteries [Refer to Miss. Admin. Code Part 209 Rule 1.47 and 1.48], and
2. Replacement batteries, if coverage criteria is met.
