Rule 18-17-7.5 - CCPP Health and Safety Orientation Training

The Health and Safety Orientation training is one of the requirements to become a CCPP approved provider. It is a three (3) hour training, and all existing staff, including Directors, employees, and volunteers, as well as new hires must complete the training within ninety (90) days of the hire date or prior to obtaining CCPP approval for the center.

A. MDHS partner agencies will conduct face to face and online trainings to all approved child care providers on behalf of MDHS. Caregivers are required to register in advance for the training and must attend the entire orientation session.
B. All providers must maintain documentation of completed orientation training for caregiver staff and volunteers who engage in child care. This documentation must be made available to MSDH or MDHS monitors upon request. Caregivers should retain documentation of orientation training, as it may be transferred to other child care facilities within the state.
C. Health and Safety topics include:
1) Prevention and control of infectious diseases (including immunization)
2) Prevention of sudden infant death syndrome and the use of safe-sleep practices
3) Administration of medication, consistent with standards for parental consent
4) Prevention of and response to emergencies due to food and allergic reactions
5) Building and physical premises safety, including the identification of and protection from hazards, bodies of water, and vehicular traffic
6) Prevention of shaken baby syndrome, abusive head trauma, and child maltreatment
7) Emergency preparedness and response planning for emergencies resulting from a natural disaster or a human-caused event (such as violence at a child care facility)
8) Handling and storage of hazardous materials and the appropriate disposal of bio-contaminants
9) Precautions in transporting children (if applicable)
10) Pediatric first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
11) Recognition and reporting of child abuse and neglect
12) Child development
