The trauma service must established and recognized by the medical staff and be responsible for the overall coordination and management of the system of care rendered to the injured patient. The trauma service will vary in each organization depending on the needs of the patient and the resources available. The trauma service must come under the organization and direction of a surgeon with current or previous board certification in General Surgery. All patients with multiple system trauma or serious injury must be evaluated and or admitted by the trauma service. The surgeon responsible for the overall care of the patient must be identified.
