Rule 15-3-1-3.3.3 - Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)1. Level I trauma centers must have a PACU staffed 24 hours/day and available to the postoperative trauma patient. Frequently it is advantageous to bypass the PACU and directly admit to the ICU. In this instance, the ICU may meet these requirements.2. PACU staffing must be in sufficient numbers to meet the critical needs of the trauma patient. 3.
