The facility shall have written policies and procedures that govern the prescribing and administering of drugs for maintenance use that have abuse potential (usually considered to be Schedule II drugs), and drugs that are known to involve a substantial risk or be associated with undesirable side effects.
1. Drugs that have abuse potential shall be prescribed and administered for maintenance use only when the following criteria are met:2. A physician member of the professional staff has reviewed the patient's record and has recorded the reasons for prescribing the drug(s) in the patient's record;3. The prescribed drug is listed in the facility's formulary; and4. Prior to the administration of the drug, the patient and, when required by law, the patient's parent(s) or guardian are informed orally and in writing, and, if possible, in the patient's native language, of the benefits and hazards of the drug.15 Miss.
