Nurse staffing will be evaluated on an individual basis for compliance. Factors to be considered are number of patients on monitors, layout of facility and proximity of emergency room to nursing unit, volume of services in the OB and Nursery and the emergency room, the number of patients on the medical/surgical floor and other responsibilities that the RN may have other than the ones described above. A sufficient number of RNs shall be available to meet the needs of the patients served. In the event that a hospital has patients on cardiac monitors in use in one area of the hospital and an emergency room in another area, the facility must have more than one RN in house to care for the patient.
