The facility shall have written policies and procedures that govern the performance of psychosurgery or other surgical procedures for the intervention in, or alteration of, a mental, emotional or behavioral disorder in an adult patient.
1. Psychosurgery shall not be performed on any adult patient unless, prior to the initiation of such treatment, a qualified psychiatrist and a neurosurgeon who are not affiliated with the treating program have examined the patient, have consulted with the responsible psychiatrist and have written and signed reports in the patient's record that concur with the decision to perform psychosurgery.2.
