Rule 15-12-32-5.1.4 - Trauma Medical Director (TMD)1. The Level IV Trauma Center must have a physician director of the trauma program. In this instance, the physician is responsible for working with all members of the trauma team, and overseeing the implementation of a trauma specific performance improvement process for the facility. Through this process, he/she should have overall responsibility for the quality of trauma care rendered at the facility. The director must be given administrative support to implement the requirements specified by the Mississippi Trauma Plan. The director should assist in the development of standards of care and assure appropriate policies and procedures are in place for the safe resuscitation and transfer of trauma patients. The physician director must have current verification in ATLS. ATLS requirements are waived for Board Certified Emergency Medicine and Board Certified General Surgery Physicians.2. Compliance with the above will be evidenced by: a. Chairing and participating in the committee where trauma performance improvement is presented;b. Administrative support can be documented in the organizational chart which depicts the reporting relationship between the trauma program medical director and administration;c.
