Part 4731.4420 - MEASURING ACTIVITY OF UNSEALED RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL; INSTRUMENTS REQUIREDA. For direct measurements performed according to part 4731.4422, a licensee must possess and use instrumentation to measure the activity of unsealed radioactive material before it is administered to a patient or human research subject.B. A licensee must check and test the instrumentation required under item A according to nationally recognized standards or the manufacturer's instructions and at the following intervals as applicable:(1) check each instrument for constancy at the beginning of each day of use;(2) test each instrument for linearity upon installation and at intervals not to exceed three months thereafter;(3) test each instrument for accuracy upon installation and at intervals not to exceed 12 months thereafter; and(4) test each instrument for geometry dependence upon installation.C. A licensee must also perform the required checks and tests in this part following adjustment or repair of the instrument.D. The licensee must keep a record of geometry dependence for the duration of the use of the instrument and must retain a record of all other instrument checks and tests for three years. The records must include:(1) the model and serial number of the instrument;(2) the date of the check or test;(3) the results of the check or test; and(4) the name of the individual performing the check or test.Minn.
