Section R. 408.15234 - Sawmill carriagesRule 5234.
(1) A stop or bumper with shock-absorptive qualities shall be installed at the ends of a carriage runway to prevent its leaving the track limits.(2) Dogs shall hold a log, cant, or board in such manner that the log, cant, or board cannot escape from the carriage. Safeguards shall be installed to insure that if the electrical power fails, the pressure of the dog on the log will not release a log until the headsaw has stopped.(3) A carriage track sweeping device shall be used to keep track rails clear of debris.(4) A barrier shall be provided to prevent the entry of employees in the carriage travel area during sawing operations.(5) When a sawyer leaves the operating station, the carriage controls shall be placed and held in the off position by a mechanical device.(6) When a powered carriage is returned to the end of the runway for maintenance work, a device shall be provided to prevent movement of the carriage.(7) A means of egress shall be provided from the operator's station.Mich.
