(1) An unauthorized employee shall not enter an acetylene generator room or house.(2) Operating instructions shall be posted near the acetylene generator for ready reference.(3) A batch type acetylene generator shall be flushed with water and the water supply replenished after a charge of carbide is exhausted, before additional carbide is added.(4) The water carbide residue mixture shall be piped into a settling pit not a sewer pipe. Only the clear water from the settling pit may be discharged into a sewer pipe.(5) Carbide added to an acetylene generator shall refill the space provided without ramming the charge. Steel or other ferrous tools shall not be used.(6) The water chamber of an acetylene generator shall be maintained at the indicated level except when draining during a recharging operation.(7) Prior to making a repair involving a source of ignition, such as welding, soldering, or other hot work, the carbide charge and feed mechanism shall be removed. All acetylene shall be expelled by completely flooding the generator with water and disconnecting the generator from the piping system. Water shall be maintained in the generator until repairs are completed. Hot repairs shall not be made in a room or house with other acetylene generators unless all generators and piping have been purged.(8) Whenever repairs are to be made, or the generator is to be charged, or the carbide is to be removed, the water chamber shall be filled to the proper level.Mich.
