Section R. 408.42532 - Precast and tilt-up operations

Rule 2532.

(1) Lifting inserts which are embedded or otherwise attached to tilt-up precast concrete members shall be capable of supporting at least 2 times the maximum intended load applied or transmitted to them. Lifting inserts which are embedded or otherwise attached to precast concrete members, other than the tilt-up members, shall be capable of supporting at least 4 times the maximum intended load applied or transmitted to them. Lifting hardware shall be capable of supporting at least 5 times the maximum intended load applied transmitted to the lifting hardware.
(2) An erection and procedure plan, including placement of connections, shall be prepared by a qualified employee knowledgeable in precast concrete erection and be kept available at the jobsite.
(3) Precast concrete wall units and vertical panels shall be braced to prevent collapse. A permanent connection may be used in place of bracing if it is capable of withstanding all loads imposed during construction.
(4) An employee, except for a connector, shall not be permitted under a precast section, wall, or panel during lifting and tilting operations.
