Rule 550. Elevator and dumbwaiter shafts shall be completely enclosed by noncombustible materials with a fire-resistance rating of not less than 1 hour. An opening shall not be permitted through the side wall enclosure for ventilation or for any other purpose. Doors and frames servicing elevators and dumbwaiters shall be approved B-labeled fire door assemblies and labeled fire frame construction and shall be hung so as to be reasonably smoketight when the doors are closed. Glass side lights, transoms, and panels above the doors shall be wire glass and shall not exceed 100 square inches.
