Section R. 325.10905 - Assessment of proposed surface water sourceRule 905.
(1) An assessment of a proposed surface water source shall be performed by the public water supply. The scope or need for the assessment shall be established in advance by the department after consultation with the owner.(2) All of the following shall be determined for each alternate location of a surface water intake: (a) The normal water quality.(b) Any significant variations in water quality.(c) Any existing or potential hazards to public health.(d) The suitability of the water for treatment.(e) The availability of an adequate and dependable source.(3) Previous assessments of the same surface water source may be considered by the department in determining the scope or need for an assessment required by subrule (1) of this rule.(4) The results of the assessment shall be submitted to the department for review, and approval shall be obtained prior to the issuance of a permit for the construction or use of an intake in a surface water source.(5) Where the water quality of the proposed surface water source is unknown, the department may require sampling and analyses by the public water supply for a period not to exceed 1 year to determine water quality and suitability of the water for treatment.Mich.
