Section R. 325.10611d - Enhanced treatment for Cryptosporidium; requirementsRule 611d.
(1) The requirements in this rule, R 325.10611n, and R 325.10720b to R 325.10720e establish or extend treatment technique requirements instead of maximum contaminant levels for Cryptosporidium. These requirements are in addition to requirements for filtration and disinfection in R 325.10611 to R 325.10611c, R 325.10720 to R 325.10720a, and R 325.10722.(2) The requirements of this rule, R 325.10611n, and R 325.10720b to R 325.10720e apply to all subpart H supplies, which are community and noncommunity water supplies supplied by a surface water source and community and noncommunity water supplies supplied by a groundwater source under the direct influence of surface water (GWUDI). These public water supplies are considered "water supplies" or "supplies" in this rule, R 325.10611d to R 325.10611n, and R 325.10720b to R 325.10720e. Both of the following apply to this rule:(a) Wholesale supplies, as defined in R 325.10109, shall comply with the requirements of this rule, R 325.10611d to R 325.10611n, and R 325.10720b to R 325.10720e based on the population of the largest supply in the combined distribution system.(b) The requirements of this rule, R 325.10611n, and R 325.10720b to R 325.10720e apply to subpart H supplies required by these rules to provide filtration treatment, whether or not the supply is currently operating a filtration system.(3) Supplies subject to this rule, R 325.10611n, and R 325.10720b to R 325.10720e shall comply with the following requirements:(a) Supplies shall conduct an initial and a second round of source water monitoring for each plant that treats a surface water or GWUDI source. This monitoring may include sampling for Cryptosporidium, E. coli, and turbidity as described in 40 CFR 141.701 to 40 CFR 141.706, as adopted by reference in R 325.10720b, to determine what level, if any, of additional Cryptosporidium treatment they shall provide.(b) Supplies that plan to make a significant change to their disinfection practice shall develop disinfection profiles and calculate disinfection benchmarks, as described in R 325.10720c to R 325.10720d and R 325.10722 (4) (b).(c) Supplies shall determine their Cryptosporidium treatment bin classification as described in R 325.10611e and provide additional treatment for Cryptosporidium, if required, as described in R 325.10611f. Supplies shall implement Cryptosporidium treatment according to the schedule in R 325.10611g.(d) Supplies required to provide additional treatment for Cryptosporidium shall implement microbial toolbox options that are designed and operated as described in R 325.10611h to R 325.10611m.(e) Supplies shall comply with the applicable recordkeeping and reporting requirements described in R 325.10720e.(f) Supplies shall address significant deficiencies identified in sanitary surveys performed by EPA as described in R 325.10611n.Mich.
