(1) A swimming pool owner shall ensure that a sand-type filter system is designed to operate at a maximum filtration rate of 20 gallons per minute per square foot of filter area and a backwash rate of 15 gallons per minute per square foot of filter area. The department may approve other flow rates based on test data or other performance data that demonstrate compliance with R 325.2151.(2) A swimming pool owner shall ensure that the backwash water is discharged to waste and that a means for viewing backwash water clarity is provided.Mich.
