Section R. 390.1135 - Renewal of professional teaching certificate

Rule 35.

(1) Subject to subrule (3) of this rule and subject to section 1233(6) to (8) of the act, MCL 380.1233, the superintendent of public instruction may renew a professional teaching certificate that has expired or will expire within the calendar year of application if the applicant has paid the applicable evaluation fee and the department has received documentation that, since the issue date of the most recent teaching certificate, the applicant completed a combination of education-related professional learning hours totaling 150 hours.
(2) Additional hours beyond the 150 hours required under subrule (1) of this rule that a certificate holder earns during the time period of a certificate do not apply toward subsequent renewals.
(3) Subject to section 1233(6) to (8) of the act, MCL 380.1233, the superintendent of public instruction may issue one 5-year renewal of a valid or expired Michigan professional teaching certificate to an applicant who has paid the applicable evaluation fee if the department has received documentation that the applicant holds a valid out-of-state teaching certificate.
