Section 10.44.04.04 - Exceptions

The following intraoral functions may not be performed in the practice of dental hygiene:

A. Diagnosis;
B. Extraction;
C. Cavity repair;
D. Tooth placement correction;
E. Surgical procedures;
F. Anesthesia procedures other than:
(1) Administering topical anesthesia; or
(2) Administering local anesthesia by infiltration or local anesthesia by inferior alveolar nerve block in accordance with:
(a) Health Occupations Article, §§ 4-206.1 and 4.206.3, Annotated Code of Maryland; and
(b) The requirements of Regulation .06 of this chapter; and
(3) Administering nitrous oxide in accordance with:
(a) Health Occupations Article, § 4-206.2, Annotated Code of Maryland; and
(b) The requirements of Regulation .17 of this chapter;
G. Prescribing or administering medication other than:
(1) Prescribing and administering medication in accordance with Health Occupations Article, §§ 4-205 and 4-206.4, Annotated Code of Maryland; and
(2) The requirements of Regulation .27 of this chapter;
H. Condensing, carving, or finishing any restoration; and
I. Cementing permanent crowns or restorations.
