Section 10.44.01.01 - Definitions

A. In this chapter, the following terms have the meanings indicated.

B. Terms Defined.

(1) "Board" means State Board of Dental Examiners.

(2) "Dental assistant" means a person, other than an individual licensed in the state as a dentist or dental hygienist, employed for the purpose of assisting a dentist in the performance of intraoral duties related to dental care.

(3) "Direct supervision" means that the supervising dentist is in the dental office, personally diagnoses the condition to be treated, personally authorizes the procedure, and, before dismissal of the patient, personally evaluates the performance of the dental assistant.

(4) "General supervision" means the supervision of a dental assistant by a dentist where the dentist may or may not be present when the dental assistant performs the dental assisting procedures.
