SANDY RIVER BROWN TROUT MANAGEMENT PLAN

GOAL:

To augment the existing sport fishery for brown trout in the lower Sandy River. (Between Strong and New Sharon)

OBJECTIVES:

Provide a catch rate of 0.20 trout per angler day with a mean length of 14 inches.

MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES:

1 Stock 3000 fin clipped fall yearling brown trout annually for 5 years (1984-88).
2 Stock 3000 fin clipped spring yearling brown trout annually for 5 years (1989-93).
3 River stocked between Strong and New Sharon.

REGULATIONS:1

1 Open water fishing from April 1 thru October 31.
2 Open under general law regulations from April 1 - September 15.
3 From September 16 thru October 31, fly fishing only, all fish caught must be released at once from Strong to its confluence with the Kennebec.

EVALUATION:

Data collected by anglers who voluntarily record their catch. Data will be analyzed and summarized annually. Final reports in 1989 and 1994.
