Section 392-4-24-2 - Prescription Drug Orders1. Controlled Drugs - Written or Faxed Prescriptions A pharmacy shall retain each written or faxed prescription drug order for a controlled drug for 2 years. For manually-processed orders, the retention period begins on the date of first fill. For orders processed by an automatic data processing system, the retention period begins on the date of last fill.
2. Noncontrolled Drugs; Manual RecordkeepingA. A pharmacy shall retain each written or faxed prescription drug order for a noncontrolled drug that was manually processed for 2 years from the date of first fill.B. A pharmacy may retain a scanned or microfiched unadulterated copy of the prescription drug order in place of the original. The scan or microfiche must include any information appearing on the reverse side of the prescription drug order.3. Noncontrolled Drugs; Automatic Data Processing System Prescription drug orders for noncontrolled drugs that were processed by an automated data processing system in accordance with Chapter 19, Section 7 of the board's rules need not be retained.
