Section 94-5-20 - Continuances
(a) Any hearing scheduled on the court's calendar may be continued by the court upon a written motion filed at least 30 days before the date of the scheduled hearing. This requirement may be waived by the court at its discretion upon a showing of good cause. Before requesting a continuance, the moving party shall consult with all other parties and shall state in the motion the position of the other parties with respect to the continuance request. Each motion for continuance shall clearly state the reason for the requested continuance. Parties and counsel shall not contact court staff in an attempt to reschedule a matter before the court. These requests shall be filed in writing as specified in this subsection. All necessary rescheduling shall be initiated by the court after a motion has been received.
(b) A motion to continue a hearing shall be granted only in exceptional and unforeseen circumstances.
