Section 88-22-2 - Applicant eligibility, qualified students

(a) To be designated a teacher scholar by the executive officer of the board, each applicant shall demonstrate to the executive officer that the applicant:

(1) Is a resident of the state of Kansas;

(2) has been accepted for admission to or is enrolled full-time in a course of instruction leading to certification in a hard-to-fill teaching discipline as identified by the state board of education; and

(3) has demonstrated scholastic ability which shall be determined on a combination of the following:

(A) High ACT or SAT score;

(B) rank in high school graduation class;

(C) cumulative high school or college grade point average;

(D) completion of the regents recommended secondary school curriculum;

(E) any other indicator of scholastic ability such as participation in academic competitions or activities; and

(F) for applicants who are unable to provide adequate high school information, written recommendation of a counselor who can attest to the applicant's scholastic achievement and potential for successful completion of a course of instruction leading to certification in a hard-to-fill teaching discipline.

(b) Each applicant shall enter an agreement with the executive officer pursuant to K.A.R. 88-22-8.

(c) To the extent practicable and consistent with qualification factors, members of ethnic minority groups shall be identified and considered.
