Section 102-3-5a - Examinations(a)(1) An applicant for licensure as a professional counselor shall take a nationally administered, standardized written examination approved by the board. The minimum passing score shall be the criterion-referenced cutoff score. (2) The applicant's required written examination may be waived by the board if the applicant has successfully passed a nationally administered, standardized written examination deemed by the board to be substantially equivalent to the examination used in this state and if the applicant obtained a score equal to or greater than the criterion-referenced cutoff score. (3) An applicant shall not be authorized to register for the examination or to qualify for a waiver of the examination until the applicant has fulfilled all educational requirements and has satisfied the board that the applicant merits the public trust. (b)(1) An applicant for licensure as a clinical professional counselor shall take a nationally administered, standardized written clinical examination approved by the board. The minimum passing score shall be the criterion-referenced cutoff score. (2) The applicant's required written clinical examination may be waived by the board if the applicant has successfully passed a standardized written examination deemed by the board to be substantially equivalent to the examination used in this state and if the applicant obtained a score equal to or greater than the criterion-referenced cutoff score. (3) An applicant shall not be authorized to register for the clinical examination or to qualify for a waiver of the examination until the applicant has fulfilled all educational requirements and has satisfied the board that the applicant merits the public trust.
