Rule 761-140.1 - Erection of traffic signals and beacons on primary highways

The purpose of this rule is to establish requirements, procedures and responsibilities for the erection of traffic signals and beacons on primary highways.

(1)Requirements. Traffic signals or beacons shall not be installed unless the guidelines in Part 4 of the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices," as adopted in rule 761-130.1 (321), apply.

(2)Procedure.

a. All requests are to be submitted to the appropriate district office.

b. The applicant shall be informed of the final disposition of the request.

(3)Responsibilities. The applicant is responsible for the installation and maintenance of these traffic control devices.

(4)Information. Information regarding this rule is available from the Office of Traffic and Safety, Iowa Department of Transportation, 800 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa 50010.

This rule is intended to implement Iowa Code section 321.252.
