Rule 641-101.4 - Removal of dead body or fetus(1) Before assuming custody of a dead human body or fetus, any person shall: a. Contact the attending physician and receive assurance that death is from natural causes and that the physician will assume responsibility for certifying to the cause of death or fetal death; orb. If the case comes within the jurisdiction of the medical examiner, contact the medical examiner and receive authorization to remove the dead human body or fetus.(2) If a person other than a funeral director, medical examiner, or emergency medical service assumes custody of a dead human body or fetus, the person shall secure a burial-transit permit.Iowa Admin.
