A groundwater professional who fails to obtain certification with the department of natural resources as required in this chapter is subject to a civil penalty of $50. A groundwater professional who knowingly or intentionally makes a false statement or misrepresentation which results in a mistaken classification of a site shall be guilty of a serious misdemeanor and shall have the groundwater professional certification revoked.
