All verbal orders must be authenticated by the prescribing or ordering practitioner within a period not to exceed 30 days following a patient's discharge. When verbal or electronic mechanisms are used to transmit orders, the orders must be accepted only by personnel who are authorized to do so by hospital policies and procedures in a manner consistent with federal and state law.
