Rule 161-8.16 - Bona fide apprenticeship programs

Where an age limit is placed upon entrance into an apprenticeship program, the limitation shall not be a violation of Iowa Code chapter 216 where the employer can demonstrate a legitimate economic interest in the limitation in terms of the length of the training period and the costs involved in providing the training. The age limit shall not be set any lower than reasonably necessary to enable the employer to recover the costs of training the employee and a reasonable profit.
