Section 401.310 - Qualifications of Child Welfare Supervisors

All persons employed as child welfare supervisor are required to be in full compliance with 89 Ill. Adm. Code 412, Licensure of Direct Child Welfare Service Employees and Supervisors and all other applicable requirements in Department laws and regulations, and, must meet the qualifications in any one of subsections (a) through (d). In addition to possessing the following qualifications to work as a child welfare supervisor, a person qualifying under Section 401.310(b) through (d) must go through the approval processes described in Sections 401.311 through 401.314:

a) Master's of Social Work degree from an accredited school of social work or an academically equivalent Master's degree in a human services field from an accredited school and 2 years of full-time experience in a social work or human services setting; or
1) Child welfare supervisors who were employed as a child welfare supervisor as of July 1, 1997, who have a Master's degree and child welfare experience equivalent to the requirements of this Section, continue to be qualified as a child welfare supervisor for the child welfare agency where they are employed as of July 1, 1998.
2) At minimum 70% of the agency's child welfare supervisors shall meet the standards in Section 401.310(a).
b) Master's degree that has not been approved as academically equivalent to social work or human services related degree and 3 years of child welfare experience; or
c) Bachelor's degree in social work or human services or an academically equivalent to a social work or human services related degree with 3 years of experience in a child welfare and/or human/social services setting, and apply in 6 months and enroll within 18 months of employment as a child welfare supervisor in a graduate social work or human services program or a graduate program approved as academically equivalent to a graduate social work or human services program, and complete the course work in 3 years from enrollment to acquire a graduate degree in social work or an approved human services field; or
d) Bachelor's degree that has not been approved as academically equivalent to a social work or human services related degree with 5 years of experience in a child welfare and/or social services setting, and apply in 6 months and enroll within 18 months of employment as a child welfare supervisor in a graduate social work or human services program or a graduate program approved as academically equivalent to a graduate social work or human services program, and complete the course work in 3 years from enrollment to acquire a degree in social work or an approved human services field.
