Section 845.600 - Groundwater Protection Standardsa) For existing CCR surface impoundments and for inactive CCR surface impoundments: 1) The groundwater protection standards at the waste boundary must be: S) Total Dissolved Solids: 1200 mg/LT) Radium 226 and 228 combined: 5 pCi/L2) For constituents with a background concentration higher than the levels identified in subsection (a)(1), the background concentration must be the groundwater protection standard.b) For new CCR surface impoundments, the groundwater protection standards at the waste boundary must be background for the constituents listed in subsection (a)(1), calcium, and turbidity.c) The owner or operator of a CCR surface impoundment may not obtain alternative groundwater quality standards in 35 Ill. Adm. Code 620.450(a)(4) for the constituents in subsections (a) and (b) before the end of post-closure care under Section 845.780, when closing with a final cover system, or before the end of groundwater monitoring under Section 845.740(b), when closing by removal.Ill.
