An investigation of the allegations in the petition and a report recommending disposition of the petition under the Termination of Parent and Child Relationship Act will be completed and submitted to the court within thirty (30) days, unless an extension of time is granted by the court. The purpose of this investigation is to verify the allegations through all available sources, including the petitioner, parent(s) and possibly the extended family of the child. The Report to the Court under the Termination of Parent and Child Relationship Act, is to serve as an aid to the court in determining a disposition that complies with the Indian Child Welfare Act where applicable, or that will be in the best interest of the child. If a petition is filed by a party other than the Department, the court may order such an investigation by the Department. The law also allows completion of an investigation by an authorized agency or a certified adoption professional, prior to adjudication and disposition. If the Department is the petitioner, the report will accompany the petition.
