Section 19-139-16 - Driver education

All vehicles used in behind-the-wheel driving courses must meet the following minimum standards:

(1) The vehicle must have a current motor vehicle registration and safety check.
(2) The vehicle must be in good working condition,
(3) The vehicle must be equipped with dual brakes and instructor's eye check mirrors.
(4) The vehicle must display a "Student Driver" sign in a prominent location on the vehicle when the vehicle is used in instruction.
(5) The vehicle must be covered by insurance in a form and with provisions satisfactory to the department, including as a minimum;
(A) Bodily injury--$100,000 per person, $300,000 per occurrence; and
(B) Property damage--$20,000 per occurrence.

The insurance policy must name the State of Hawaii and the counties as additional insureds unless the insurance coverage required by this section is included in the commercial general liability policy required by section 19-139-13(g).

(6) All persons in the vehicle must use occupant protection at all times.
