"Thumbing", using an open glove or jabbing at an opponent's eye with the thumb of the glove, has frequently caused serious injuries to the eye. Referees are cautioned to watch for this trick, and if it is deliberately used, penalize by disqualification. Contestants using such tactics may be fined or suspended by the commission.
