Section 16-72-57 - Use of titles
(a) An acupuncturist shall not misrepresent one's academic designation, professional title, qualification, and affiliation in an advertisement.
(b) A licensee who has been awarded an earned doctoral degree from an approved post-secondary school, post-secondary school, approved school, or school approved by the board, and who meets the academic standards set forth in section 16-72-17 may use the title "Doctor," "Dr.," "Doctor of Acupuncture," "D.Ac.," provided that the word "Acupuncturist" immediately follows the licensee's name.
(c) A licensee who was previously approved by the board to use the doctoral title prior to adoption of this chapter may continue to use the designation until September 1, 2000. In order to continue to use the doctoral title after September 1, 2000, the licensee shall apply for the use of an academic title and shall provide proof to the board of meeting the academic standards of section 16-72-17. The licensee's failure to apply and to meet the academic standards of section 16-72-17 by September 1, 2000, shall result in the loss of all rights to the continued usage of the doctoral title and the licensee shall immediately refrain from using the title.
