Rule 560-10-29-.01 - Free United States Military Reserve License Plates(1) The Major Commanders of each Active Reserve Component program shall furnish the Commissioner of Revenue each year prior to the date that license plates are issued, an alphabetical list of all active members of their command assigned or attached to troop program units who reside in Georgia who are entitled to the issuance of a United States Military Reserve license plate as provided for by Georgia Laws 1978, pp. 2205, 2206.(2) United States Military Reserve license plates shall have the same life cycle and annual renewal deadline as do regular passenger license plates.(3) Applications for United States Military Reserve license plates must be submitted to the county tax commissioner or tax collector in the county of the applicant's residence along with the certification from the applicant's commanding officer that he is an active member of the commanding officer's command or attached to a troop program unit and residing in Georgia.(4) United States Military Reserve license plates may be used only on a passenger car, trailer, station wagon, van type vehicle of three quarter tons or less or truck not exceeding 14,000 pounds owner's declared gross vehicle weight used for personal transportation.(5) If a member of the United States Military Reserve so desires, he may, after being issued his one free United States Military Reserve license plate, purchase additional plates of the same type by paying the license plate fees set by law for the types of vehicles to which the additional United States Military Reserve license plates will be assigned.(6) When a Reserve Member transfers the ownership of a vehicle bearing a United States Military Reserve license plate, he shall remove said plate from the vehicle being transferred and, subject to the Reservist's right to transfer the removed plate to another vehicle which he may subsequently acquire, the authority to use said plate shall be cancelled. The transfer of the removed plate to another vehicle which the Reservist has acquired may be accomplished by the submission of a new application supported by the owner's certificate of registration and Form MV-99.Ga.
