Rule 26-A502 - REQUIREMENTS FOR NONRESIDENT502.1Any nonresident operating a motor vehicle in the District who has not been issued a District registration may maintain a valid policy of motor vehicle insurance issued by an insurer which is not authorized to sell motor vehicle insurance in the District, provided the following applies:
(a) The insurer is authorized to sell motor vehicle insurance in any state of the United States;(b) The insurer who issues the policy executed a power of attorney authorizing the Commissioner to accept service, on behalf of the insurer, of notice of process in any action arising out of a motor vehicle accident in the District; and(c) The insurer who issued a policy agrees, in writing, to treat the policy as providing, at a minimum, all of the coverages required by the Act while its named insured is operating a motor vehicle in the District, whether or not the policy or any endorsement specifically provided that coverage.502.2Any nonresident operating a motor vehicle in the District who has been issued a District registration may maintain a valid policy of motor vehicle insurance pursuant to § 502.1 of this chapter.
