Rule 24-1500 - SCOPE AND PURPOSE

The purpose of these rules is to establish a notice and hearing process for the owner of an animal seized pursuant to section 4(b)(1) of An Act to prevent cruelty to children or animals in the District of Columbia, and for other purposes, approved June 25, 1892 (27 Stat. 61 D.C.; Official Code § 22 -1004(b)(1)(2001), to contest the seizure, detention, and terms of release; the treatment of the animal; any allegation of cruelty, abandonment, or neglect; and the imposition of any lien and costs assessed for caring and providing for the animal.
