Rule 14-1400 - PURPOSE

The purpose of these rules is to establish the procedures for applying for a Certificate of Occupancy.

The procedural rules in this chapter were promulgated by the Department of Licenses, Investigations and Inspections pursuant to Part II(e) of Reorganization Plan No. 1 of 1982 (D.C. Official Code, Vol. 3, 362 (2001) which gave the aforesaid department the authority to administer and enforce the zoning statutes, code and regulations governing the use of all private land and buildings. The Department of Licenses, Investigations and Inspections was abolished by Reorganization Plan No. 1 of 1983, (D.C. Official Code, Vol. 3 at 367 (2001) which transferred the authority, duties and functions of that department to the director of the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. Therefore, all references to the Department of Licenses, Investigations and Inspections in the original source of these rules have been changed in this chapter to the "Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs."
AUTHORITY: Unless otherwise noted, the authority for this chapter is An Act Making appropriations to provide for the expenses of the government of the District of Columbia for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and ten, and for other purposes, Public, No. 303, 35 Stat. 688, ch. 250, approved March 3, 1909, D.C. Official Code § 6-661.01 (2001) and Reorganization Plan No. 1 of 1982, D.C. Official Code, Vol. 3, 362 (2001).
